Hi ladies, to celebrate the rebirth of my blog I’ve teamed up with my favourite French jewellery designer Odélie Chan for my first giveaway! These uniquely designed earrings are perfect for the upcoming Spring-Summer season.
“These earrings are inspired by the tie and dye process with a zesty colour gradient of yellow, peach and orange. I worked on the base to give it a textured and aged appearance. The top earlobe piece is gold-plated so no allergy risk and the featured stone in each earring’s centre is a lunar stone. They are stylish, modern and luminous.” ~ Odélie Chan

ODELIE CHAN Q&A
What factors/places/themes influence and inspire your designs?
That’s a tough question! Many things inspire me. It may sound cliché but life in general; its ups and downs, passionate people, the power of music, the wealth of travel, the beauty of nature and its colours and diversity. Also my childhood in the 80’s and my ethnic background… I think all these elements are reflected in my jewelry in some form through the different collections.
How would you describe your jewelry in 3 words?
EVOLVING | ORIGINAL | VITALIZED
What is your favourite collection you’ve created and why?
I do not really have a favourite one to be honest. Each collection corresponds to a specific period in my life. They are all part of me. I am very eclectic. Visually I will say I’m “Ruler Squaw” because I’m fascinated by the Amerindian culture! Their jewellery pieces were huge and very detailed. The press has been very welcoming of my work which is encouraging.
Your jewelry is without a doubt very innovative and uniquely designed! What would you say are the key things that set you and your jewelry designs apart from other designers?
Thank you, I’m really honoured! Well I’m not too sure, I think the most important thing as a designer is to find yourself, your own unique style and use your creativity as a personal outlet, then those affected by your touch will follow. As in art, you will be permeable to certain things and others not at all.
Who is the Odélie Chan Original Jewelry woman?
She’s the shiniest plant with strong roots and her leaves swing in the clouds. She is love, light, daring and elegant with a bit of eccentricity!!
What was your inspiration behind this particular piece?
These earrings are inspired by the tie and dye process with a zesty colour gradient of yellow, peach and orange. I worked on the base to give it a textured and aged appearance. The top earlobe piece is gold-plated so no allergy risk and the featured stone in each earring’s centre is a lunar stone. They are stylish, modern and luminous.
If you could only leave your house wearing one item of jewelry, what would it be?
Good question! Since I began designing and creating jewelry, I realised I wear less and less jewels – except rings; my mum’s rings. I spend too many hours working on my jewelry pieces so I prefer to see them on beautiful creatures! But I’m really attached to my jade bracelet because I believe the stone has mystical powers and I like believing in it.
Who is your favourite celebrity/celebrities you’d love to see wear your jewelry?
Probably all girls with a singular universe: BJORK, M.I.A, FKA TWIGS, BEYONCE, JANET JACKSON, JHENE AIKO, LOLA WOL, MESHELL NDEGEOCELLO, BRIGITTE FONTAINE, DEVON AOKI….the list would be too long! So many girls are doing an excellent job in their creative fields right now.
What advice would you give jewelry design students and upcoming jewelry designers seeking to break out into the world of jewelry design?
Well, I don’t think I’m the best person to give advice but I will just say this:
Be enduring, persistent, work hard, have the right connections (easy to say, hard to find!) and travel as often as you can. Never be stagnate and above all else, have fun!
What projects are you currently working on for 2015?
I’ve started to work in Japan on few collaborations but most of them will be exclusive to the Japanese market. Except that, many capsule projects and collections are on their way!
